China is willing to work with other BRICS members to jointly address the impact of the United States' actions on the global trade order, upholding the multilateral trading system, Chinese officials said during a BRICS meeting.

They spoke at a virtual meeting of the BRICS contact group on economic and trade affairs, convened on Monday by Brazil, the BRICS chair for 2025. Officials from BRICS countries held in-depth discussions on global trade tensions sparked by the US unilateral "reciprocal tariffs," expressing a shared commitment to opposing unilateralism and trade protectionism.

China urged BRICS countries to refrain from implementing trade-restrictive measures, facilitate open and stable economic cooperation and deliver greater benefits to businesses and people across all countries, said the Ministry of Commerce in an online statement.

BRICS is an acronym for Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, five major emerging markets with considerable economic potential. It has now evolved into an influential international cooperation mechanism with an expanded membership.
