CNPC unveils China's first homegrown dynamic simulation software for oil and gas fields

China National Petroleum Corp (CNPC) on Tuesday launched HiSimPro, the country's first domestically developed dynamic simulation engine software, in Beijing — marking a significant technological breakthrough in core industrial software for oil and gas field development.

Integrating underground reservoirs, wellbores, and pipeline networks, the software features fully independent intellectual property rights. According to CNPC, HiSimPro provides integrated, professional dynamic simulation capabilities across three key domains: reservoir engineering, production engineering, and gathering and transportation engineering.

Described as a “digital brain and X-ray vision” for oil and gas fields, HiSimPro supports full lifecycle and full-stack simulation and optimization — from early scheme design to production operations, and from underground formations to surface facilities.

The software is applicable throughout all stages of oil and gas field development, including initial scheme design, mid-stage scheme adjustment, production optimization, and late-stage development evaluation.

In addition to helping engineers locate oil-rich zones and determine optimal water injection points to enhance recovery, HiSimPro also acts as a flow monitor in pumping pipelines. It tracks the mixing of oil, gas, and water to help prevent issues such as water or gas channeling.

CNPC said the software has already been deployed in more than 300 oil and gas field blocks across China.
