BEIJING -- China's State Oceanic Administration (SOA) has urged ConocoPhillips to make further clean-up efforts as oil spills are still visible on the surface of the Bohai Sea in North China.

According to a statement released Thursday by the SOA, a team consisting of SOA officials and experts found an oil slick near one of the company's offshore drilling platform on Wednesday, with new oil coming to the surface every minute.

The team suggested that the operator of the platform hadn't effectively blocked all the leaks.

In Thursday's statement, the SOA ordered ConocoPhillips to take "all possible measures" to prevent new pollution while readjusting their report on the environmental impacts of the oil spills and their offshore oilfield development plan.

According to the SOA, compensation procedures for the environmental damages caused by the oil spills before Sept. 1 are underway, while another lawsuit will be filed regarding the damages done after that day.
