Beijing exam markers need to hold doctorate

Staff charged with scoring China’s national College Entrance Exam (NCCE) should be teachers who hold a doctorate, the examination board announced after the first day of tests, the Beijing Times reported Tuesday.

The Beijing Education Examination Bureau(BEEB)has also started online scoring for math papers, according to an exam official at Tsinghua University. The NEEC member insisted accuracy and fairness will be ensured as the system leaves no correction marks on the paper, but it will take time to scan each sheet.

Despite a 20 percent drop in the number of students taking the exam in Beijing, the number of teachers grading the papers will not be reduced.

"This means exam markers will take more time on one paper, which is good for students," a BEEB official said.
