Police confirmed the identity of a migrant worker who died under an overpass in the capital city of Henan province.

Liu Hongwei, 38, a migrant worker from a village in Qixian county, was found dead on Nov 30 under an overpass in Zhengzhou, the capital of Henan province, a source from Qixian county's public security bureau told the Henan Business News on Tuesday.

Liu slept under the overpass for nearly a month and developed symptoms of hypothermia before his death. He refused to go to a hospital for fear of the high medical costs when an ambulance came twice to pick up him, the report said.

An official from his village said that he left home seven years ago. His wife disappeared soon after he left, leaving his father and child at home without any contact details.

After learning about his death, township officials took some food to his father.

Liu's death attracted attention to the living conditions of migrant workers. Some volunteers, including popular artists, bought jackets and quilts for the people sleeping under the overpass over the weekend.
