Solo sailor Guo Chuan gets round Cape of Good Hope

QINGDAO - Chinese sailor Guo Chuan got round of the Cape of Good Hope, Southernmost Africa, on last Wednesday in his non-stop solo sailing around the world, said his supporting team on Monday.

Bypassing the Cape Horn on January 19, Guo Chuan is expected to cross the Indian Ocean in 25 days.

"I am sailing on the Indian Ocean less than a week, and the whether brings great difficulties for me," Guo said over a satellite phone.

"The maximum wind speed reached 50 knots, which is the most powerful wind I have ever met in this world sailing, and the wave height is five to seven meters," he said.

"For now, I should be in a surviving mode, both for me and the boat." Guo said.

Beside bad whether, fishing nets and many merchant ships are also challenges for his sailing on the Indian Ocean, according to Guo.

Setting off from Qingdao, East China, which is Guo's hometown, on November 18 last year, Guo aims to travel 21,600 nautical miles in about 130 days.
