Chengdu airport resumes operation after quake

Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport, Southwest China’s busiest airport, resumed normal operation at about 9:10 am on Saturday after a magnitude-7 earthquake that hit Ya’an city on Saturday morning closed the airport, according to a statement of Civil Aviation Administration of China.

The airport in Chengdu, capital of Sichuan province, was closed at 8:10 am and emergency measures, including equipment inspection and evaluation, were taken to ensure safety after the earthquake hit Ya’an at 8:02 am, the statement said.

The first flight after the earthquake took off at 9:19 am, the statement said.

All airports, air management authorities and airline companies in Southwest China also took emergency measures after the earthquake, and a total of 53 flights have landed at alternative airports or returned to their destination of origin, according to the statement
