PYONGYANG - Chinese Vice-President Li Yuanchao on Friday visited the Korea-China Friendship Tower and the cemetery of the fallen Chinese fighters in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) to mourn the dead in the Korean War.

Li laid wreaths before the tower where the martyears' list was kept and the Cemetery of the Fallen Fighters of the Chinese People's Volunteers in Hoechang County, which also holds the grave of Chinese martyr Mao Anying (1922-1950), son of Chairman Mao Zedong (1893-1976).

The fighters of the Chinese People's Volunteers joined the DPRK soldiers and people more than 60 years ago to help them protect their homeland and country, and safeguard peace and justice, Li said.

The Communist Party of China, the Chinese government and people will remember forever the sons and daughters of China who sacrificed their lives in the war, and remember forever the sacrifices they made to protect their motherland and safeguard peace, Li said.

Li said peace and development are the subjects of modern times.

The purpose of marking the 60th anniversary of the Korean War Armistice is to safeguard peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and to pursue regional prosperity and development for the future, Li added.

Kim Jong-un, top leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), also had wreaths laid there.

Vice-Chairman Yang Hyong-sop of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly and other DPRK party, government and military officials attended the activities.
