A Beijing taxi driver was sentenced to three years in jail for attempting to blow up a local telecom store using his cab's gas tank, the Beijing Miyun County People's Court said on Wednesday.

The suspect, surnamed Dang, was charged with endangering public safety by using dangerous means, according to the prosecuting department.

The court reported that Dang had had cellphone signal problems since November. He reported the problem to the telecom company, but there was no improvement.

On Nov 25, after a quarrel with his wife, he tried to call his friends for mediation but could not make a call since his cell phone still didn't have any signal.

The next morning, Dang drove the car to a local telecom business and attempted to cause an explosion using the car's gas tank and a lighter. The police arrested him on the spot.
