Xi stresses rule of law for 'safe China'

WUHAN -- President Xi Jinping has underlined that the rule of law was a key guarantee for building a "safe China," urging political and legal organs to collectively develop the public security system.

Xi made the remarks in an instruction on China's security work publicized Monday.

"Political, legal and public security organs should frame their work within the drive to push forward the rule of law, make greater efforts to build a safe China, and stick to the rule of law in their thoughts and measures to solve conflicts and problems," Xi said.

Stressing that law was the key force in guiding and ensuring national security, Xi called for accelerating the creation of a comprehensive public security system.

Xi's comments coincided with a meeting on Monday in central China's Hubei Province on nationwide public security work.

"The management of public security should focus on specific issues and follow the spirit of the rule of law, reform and innovation ... so as to promote a safe China; effectively prevent, control or solve various problems affecting social stability; and further boost people's sense of security and contentment," said a statement released after the meeting.

The meeting was attended by leading officials including Meng Jianzhu, head of the Communist Party of China Central Committee's Commission for Political and Legal Affairs well as Zhou Qiang and Cao Jianming, heads of the Supreme People's Court and Supreme People's Procuratorate respectively.

"People's livelihoods; social order and stability; and our long-term peace must be ensured," the meeting was told.
