China urges French authorities to stay calm amid protests over fatal shooting

By Mo Jingxi | China Daily | Updated: 2017-03-30 07:30

China has requested that French authorities understand the reaction of Chinese people living in France over the death of a Chinese citizen in Paris and keep calm to avoid escalating the situation, Foreign Ministry spokesman Lu Kang said on Wednesday.

"We ask France to find out the truth as soon as possible, release the result of the investigation, and ... actively respond to the reasonable appeals of people involved," he told a daily news conference in Beijing.

A French police officer fatally shot a Chinese man at his home in Paris after a neighbor called police to report a domestic dispute on Sunday night. The killing triggered clashes between police officers and Chinese who demonstrated in front of the police station.
