National library releases new WWII files

The National Library of China released new collections of files related to World War II on Tuesday.

The collections are related to trials — held in December 1949 in the Russian city of Khabarovsk bordering China — of Japanese suspects of war crimes. The records of the court hearings for the Khabarovsk War Crime Trials are now available for public viewing at the Beijing library in Chinese, English, Russian, German and Japanese.

The trials exposed the atrocities of the Japanese troops that used biological weapons in WWII.

A separate 30-volume collection of files on Japanese armed forces' battle plans, which can function as crucial references in the study of the Chinese theater in that war, was also released.

Since 2011, the library has published 58 sets of historical recordings (3,066 volumes in total) on WWII as part of a massive project collecting 2 million pages from libraries not only nationwide but also from institutions in Japan, North America and Europe.
