The second Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summer Camp of intangible cultural heritage opened at the Beijing Tianqiao Performing Arts Center on Aug 12.

The event was to commemorate the 45th anniversary of UNESCO's Convention Concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage and promote cooperation of protecting, passing on as well as developing intangible cultural heritage among SCO members.

Held from Aug 12 to 17 in Beijing and Guizhou province, the event's theme is "protection and inheritance of intangible cultural heritage".

Twenty-four successors of various intangible cultural heritages from China, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Russia, Afghanistan, Belarus, Iran, Cambodia, Nepal and Turkey participated in the one-week summer camp.

They showed typical traditional handicrafts including Chinese woodblock printing, Russian clay sculpture, Kazakhstan tamboura, Turkish encaustic together with Iran wood carving and jewelry design.

The summer camp follows the principle of "respecting cultural diversity and seeking common development" that was advocated by SCO.

Forums and exhibitions on intangible cultural heritage as well as exchange and investigation activities promoted interaction among participants and strengthened traditional friendship of member counties.
