More than 50 contemporary artists in new Shanghai show

By Zhang Kun in Shanghai ( chinadaily.com.cn ) Updated: 2016-03-16 13:41:57

From a soap bar made of cement to sculpture and installation consisting of pig's fat, the new exhibition at K11 art museum in Shanghai celebrates the founding of a new artists community.

The exhibition We: A Community of Chinese Contemporary Artists features more than 50 artists, including established artists, such as Zhang Enli, as well as a large number of emerging new artists.

By the launch of the exhibition on March 4, the K11 Art Foundation also announced the founding of Art Community, an online social platform "like LinkedIn for the art profession", said Adrian Cheng, founder of the foundation.

The exhibits span across a wide range of mediums such as painting, sculpture, installation, performance art and theater, aiming to express the diverse individualistic thoughts and spirits of the many Chinese artists working today. Besides weekend lectures, during the exhibition period KAF will host a series of public interactive performances on every Sunday afternoon at the chic K11 art museum.

"Since the inception of the K11 brand, we have stayed true to our mission of engaging with China's contemporary art development," Cheng said of the foundation's multifaceted five-year history.
