China and the United States signed an agreement here on Wednesday with an aim to help improve China's air training and safety.

The agreement was signed by the General Administration of Civil Aviation of China (CAAC) and the US Trade and Development Agency (USTDA). Under it, the US government will provided a grant of 1.26 million dollars to China to help it improve its air training and safety.

The agreement between the USTDA and CAAC will promote trade relations between the two countries and strengthen cooperation on aviation standards and safety.

Under the agreement, officials from the US-China Aviation Cooperation Program, which was set up last year, and the US Federal Aviation Administration will help China establish new aircraft certification procedures. Cooperation also includes technical and managerial training for Chinese air traffic workers and other aviation officials.

The signing ceremony was attended by Chinese ambassador to the United States Zhou Wenzhong and US lawmakers as well as government officials.
