DPRK classic

The Flower Girl, one of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea's best known revolutionary plays, is on a nationwide tour in China and will be performed in Guangzhou, Guangdong province, from July 7-8.

Born in 1972, The Flower Girl tells of the sad life of the poor, who were exploited by landlords in the 1930s. The heroine sells flowers to earn a living and to pay her mother's medical bills, but is later locked up by the landlord.

The story has a happy ending as the heroine's brother escapes from the landlord's persecution and later becomes a soldier, rescuing his sister.

Phibada Opera Troupe, which has been described as DPRK's national treasure, will perform the play, which has been staged 1,500 times in the past 40 years.

8 pm, July 7 and 8. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, 259 Dongfeng Zhonglu (Exit C of Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall station of subway line 2), Yuexiu district, Guangzhou. 020-8355-2030
