A modern-day, cell phone-using Don Giovanni will hit the opera stage in Beijing this September.

Germany's Cologne Opera House will bring its novel rendition of Mozart's classic opera "Don Giovanni" for a three-day run beginning on September 29 at the National Center for the Performing Arts in the Chinese capital, Sina.com.cn reports.

The fresh production had its domestic premiere in June, and won rave reviews for its inventive concept of setting the century-old legend about a libertine in the high-tech era.

Cologne's "Don Giovanni" revolves around the womanizer Don Giovanni, who tries to seduce a woman named Donna Anna, but meets difficulties when he kills Anna's father.

In the opera, Don Giovanni lives in a luxury apartment, eats sushi and locates his lovers with a cell phone.

The production is directed by Uwe Eric Laufenberg. Music will be conducted by Markus Stenz.

Baritone Christopher Maltman will play Don Giovanni, with soprano Simone Kermes as Donna Anna.
