China's first set of aerial oxygen and carbon dioxide absorption high resolution spectrograms has been recently provided by TanSat, which was launched on Dec 22 to detect global carbon dioxide.

The satellite is performing well and in accordance with instructions from the satellite platform. Its main payload, a hyper-spectral detector, will give scientists data on high precision inversion of carbon dioxide.

TanSat is China's first carbon dioxide monitoring satellite and is used to monitor and understand global carbon dioxide distribution and to help restrain greenhouse gas emissions. The two main greenhouse gas detecting instruments carried by the satellite were both developed in Changchun, Jilin province.

TanSat is operated on a sun-synchronous orbit at an altitude of 700 kilometers. Its mission is to diagram global carbon dioxide distribution with accuracy higher than 4 ppm.
