On the morning of Nov 8, 2.16 tons of aquatic products worth 597,000 yuan ($95,760), were shipped to Taichung by the Straits, the first direct high-speed commercial ship between the mainland and Taiwan.

Shipped products included mullet roe, mullet swim bladders and mullet tendon, which can be utilized as ingredients in medicine or cooking.

The products were caught in Pingtan's surrounding waters and processed by Fuzhou Jinfulin Food Company, a local aquatic products processing enterprise. This was the first time Pingtan's aquatic products were exported to Taiwan, creating a new growth point for Pingtan's high-end Taiwan-bound aquatic products.

The mullet roe is known as one of the world's top three aquatic foods, not to mention its nickname of "black gold" in Taiwan. Pingtan has given every possible support to ensure that export procedures run smoothly.

Under the guidance of?the food, authentication, and technology departments of the Fujian Provincial Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau, Pingtan provided personalized services for the company. The Fuqing Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau also assigned personnel to provide on-site export support.

The Straits ship makes four regular voyages every week. The ship can reach the other side of the Straits within two and a half hours. Clearance efficiency at Pingtan customs is expected to make the route a key channel for cross-Straits import and export of fresh agriculture and fishery products.
