Representatives of five cities located in the northeast of Fujian province held a meeting in the Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone on September 27.

Senior officials from Pingtan and the cities of Fuzhou, Nanping, Ningde, Putian and Sanming gave presentations about their economic achievements and discussed their plans for future development.

Yang Yue, Party Secretary of the city of Fuzhou, said the five cities and Pingtan should strengthen regional cooperation to boost economic growth, and they should also focus on ecological construction as well as environmental protection.

Gong Qinggai, director of the Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone, said Pingtan aims to build a free trade zone with an innovative management mechanism, and that it is determined to increase communication and cooperation with Taiwan.
