Walking into Tangyue village in Anshun city, one is welcomed by the sight of well-ordered houses and farmland. Thanks to the application of concentrated land management, the village has recovered from a flood in less than three years.

In June, 2014, a rainstorm hit the village and almost all the houses were swallowed by the rising current. “All the valuable things in the house were gone,” said villager Qiu Mingqiang, recalling the difficult days.

When the disaster had passed, local authorities began helping villagers build new houses without hesitation, and suggested to conduct concentrated management of the farmland as a method to improve yields. With the villagers’ approval, a cooperative was set up to take charge of the production bases built on the land.

Vegetables, fruits and other crops have grown on more than 324 hectares land. Villagers were employed to work at the bases, and dividends were granted to them based on the acreage of their farmland at the end of the year.

Qiu explained that he can now make much more money than before, earning a month salary of 2,500 yuan ($363). His wife also makes 80 yuan a day at the production base, and they receive about 10,000 yuan in dividends from the cooperative.
