Power grid to be upgraded at Shanghai FTZ

The current power grid at the expanded China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone (FTZ) will be upgraded to international standards, with a world-level power grid planned to be installed in the zone, according to the State Grid Shanghai Municipal Electric Power Co.

With the expansion of the Shanghai FTZ, a larger number of enterprises have settled in the zone, which consequently prompted need for a higher-standard grid system to secure the power supply, said Wu Yingzi, the general manager at the Pudong Power Supply Co of the State Grid.

Since the traditional grid and service model cannot meet the rising demand for power in the enlarged zone, the Pudong Power Supply Co is planning to build a smart and reliable grid system with 23 110-kilovolt and 45 35-kilovolt transformer stations by the end of 2020, Wu added.

Apart from plans for the new power grid, the power company has also launched in end-June an O2O (online to offline) platform to revamp the service model.

The Power O2O Service Platform, the first of its kind in the country, will make it possible for business customers to finish all formalities online instead of attending to the power company offices.
