NEW YORK - Former managers Billy Southworth and Dick Williams were elected to the Hall of Fame on Monday along with ex-Major League Baseball (MLB) commissioner Bowie Kuhn and former owners Walter O'Malley and Barney Dreyfuss.

The five were elected by two separate veterans committee ballots conducted at MLB meetings in Nashville, Tennessee, the Hall of Fame announced.

Southworth, who compiled a 1,044-704 record in seven seasons with St Louis and six with the Boston Braves, guided the Cardinals to World Series titles in 1942 and 1944.

Williams managed for 21 seasons with six teams, recording 1,571 victories against 1,451 losses and winning two World Series championships with Oakland in 1972 and 1973.

O'Malley was best known as the Dodgers owner who moved the team from Brooklyn to Los Angeles 50 years ago.

Dreyfuss was president-general manager of the Pittsburgh Pirates for 32 years and bought half-ownership of the club in 1900.

Kuhn served as commissioner from 1969 to 1984.
