Wang Meng wins World Cup short-track 500m in record time

WASHINGTON - China's Wang Meng captured the women's 500 meters in a world record time in a short-track World Cup in Kearns, Utah on Saturday, finishing 43.216 seconds.

Turin winter Olympics champion Wang rushed to renew her own world record in 43.286 which was set five days ago in a final that China occupied three of the four berths. Her teammate Zhao Nannan finished second.

Zhou Yang added one more gold to China's medal collection, winning the women's 1,500 meters in two minutes 16.729 seconds, after she set a world record in the women's 1,500 semifinals with a time of 2:16.729.

South Korea's Lee Seung-hoon won the men's 1,500 meters in 2:13.922.

US star Apolo Anton Ohno was third in 2:14.252 in his first race in Salt Lake City since moving to the area to train for the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver.

The South Korean women's 3,000 relay team broke another record with a time of 4:11.478. Canada's Charles Hamelin won the men's 500 in 41.205.
