American boxer Benard Hopkins to fight in Ghana

ACCRA - The Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) is negotiating with Bernard Humphrey Hopkins Jr., IBF, WBA and IBA light-heavyweight world champion, to stage a fight in Ghana before the end of this year, local media reported on Tuesday.

The GBA is in talks to sign an agreement with the camp of the American boxer to fight Ghana's Isaac Braimah Kamoko, also known as 'Bukom Banku', in Accra, Taufok Muntala, an executive member of the GBA, confirmed to local media.

"I can confirm that we (GBA) are making arrangements with the camp of Bernard Hopkins to fight Bukom Banku for world title in Accra," he told Asempa FM, a local radio in the capital.

"We've already started from the top and gotten positive feedback from team Hopkins; We are bent on achieving this for Banku in Accra. He is determined to fight Hopkins which we hope will become a reality this year," he said.

No date or financial details have been reached.

Kamoko will fight fellow compatriot Ayittey Powers at the Accra Sports Stadium on May 16 in a bout expected to be full of action.

Hopkins Jr., also called 'The Alien', continues to defy all practical logic.

At 49, Hopkins Jr. won his 55th fight in 65 tries on April 20, after stopping Beibut Shumenov, a former Kazakhstani Olympian, at the DC Armory to retain his IBF Light Heavyweight title while winning the WBA Super and IBA Light Heavyweight belts.

He has become the oldest boxer to defend and unify titles.
