(Xinhua) Updated: 2012-10-15 15:17

KABUL - The NATO-led forces have confirmed killing a Taliban local leader Qurashi in Kunduz province 250 km north of Afghan capital Kabul, the alliance said in a statement released here on Monday.

"Afghan and coalition forces today confirmed the death of Taliban leader Qurashi from a security operation in Kunduz province, Saturday," the statement added.

Qurashi, also known as Baz Khan and Zubair, was a Taliban local leader specializing in the use of improvised explosive devices (IED) and was directly involved in planning and executing IED attacks, the statement further said.

Taliban militants fighting the Afghan government and NATO-led troops have yet to make comment.
