Nigeria church bombing kills at least 15

KADUNA, Nigeria - The death toll of twin blasts on Sunday that rocked the St. Andrew Military Protestant Church in Jaji in central north Kaduna State had increased to 15, a top military officer said on Monday.

Commandant of the Armed Forces Command and Staff College AVM Abdullahi Kureh disclosed this to Governor Patrick Yakowa on Monday when he visited the site of the attack.

He condemned a situation where people who went to pray to God were attacked by another group, saying that security had been beefed up to forestall future recurrence.

Kureh decried the spates of attacks witnessed in various parts of the country, adding that no meaningful development could be achieved without peace.

The military authority said 11 people were on Sunday killed in a twin bomb blast at the St Andrew Military Protestant Church, Military Cantonment, Jaji.

Meanwhile, Speaker of the Nigerian House of Representatives Aminu Tambuwal has condemned the Sunday bomb blast at the Jaji Military Cantonment in Kaduna State which claimed multiple lives.

Tambuwal, in a statement reaching Xinhua on Monday urged the security agencies not to despair over the attack on their facilities.

The speaker, who observed that no religion condoned attack on innocent worshippers, urged all those behind the bombings to check their action in the interest of peace of the country.

Tambuwal expressed sympathy for the death and their families in the unfortunate attack and prayed God to give the injured quick recovery.

He restated the commitment of the House to do everything possible to assist security and other relevant agencies to tackle insecurity in the country.
