No steep flow of investment from Thailand amid crisis

(Xinhua) Updated: 2014-05-29 14:22

JAKARTA - The ongoing political turmoil in Thailand does not significantly push direct investment flow into Indonesia, as the investors make decision based on long term condition, Mahendra Siregar, chief of Indonesia investment board ( BKPM), said here on Wednesday.

The official disclosed that there have been some investors from the ASEAN member country seeking to enter Indonesia, the Southeast Asia's largest economy, but not due to the crisis in Thailand.

The flow of investment from Thailand "is not seriously affected by the ongoing political condition," said Mahendra.

Thai coup is incurring poor response from investors and stock market as well as international condemnation, Mahendra.

"I do not see that there will be a steep and sudden flow of investment (into Indonesia)," he said.

Indonesia's foreign direct investment (FDI) in Q3 rose by 9.8 percent to 72 trillion rupiah (some $6.203 billion) on yearly basis, he said.
