The Qingdao Traffic Business District is a new development zone spreading across 36 sq km around the Qingdao North Railway Station in Licang district.

It is a crucial part of Licang's strategy to build an eco-friendly commerce hub as well as Qingdao's goal to build a livable city, said officials.

The business zone will feature modern logistics, commerce, tourism, electronics, culture and creative industries, offices, a recycling economy as well as other emerging industries. Planning for the zone started in 2009 and construction is now underway.

Covering some 1.9 sq km, its core area has a traffic hub, a shopping mall, offices, a historical and cultural tourism center, as well as star-rated hotels and a convention and exhibition center.

The renowned M6 Virtual Reality Industrial Park is also in the zone.
