Suspected radioactive leak reported at Delhi airport

(Xinhua) Updated: 2016-10-09 16:14

NEW DELHI - A suspected radioactive leak was reported in the cargo area of Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport Sunday, fire service officials said.

Though no casualty has been reported in the suspected leak, the cargo terminal of Terminal T3 has been evacuated, officials said, adding that the situation is under control.

According to officials, the leak is from a package said to contain some radioactive material, but it is yet to be officially confirmed.

Local TV channels reported that a team from the National Disaster Management Authority and atomic scientists are on their way.

A similar radioactive leak scare at the Delhi international airport turned out to be a false alarm in May last year.
