Neymar fractured a vertebra in his lower back in Brazil's quarterfinal win over Colombia, ruling him out for the rest of the tournament.
在四分之一決賽巴西戰(zhàn)勝哥倫比亞的比賽中，內(nèi)馬爾腰椎骨骨裂，將缺席本屆世界杯剩余的比賽。
上文中的rule him out for the rest of the tournament即“使他無法參加世界杯剩余的比賽”，這里的rule out表示不參加比賽并非他個(gè)人所愿，而是被迫的，rule out指“將…排除”，如，The regulations rule out anyone under the age of eighteen.（按規(guī)定，18歲以下的人都不能參加。）巴西隊(duì)隊(duì)長席爾瓦也因?yàn)樵谶@場比賽中收到第二張黃牌而將無法參加下一場對陣德國的半決賽，his second yellow card ruled him out for the semi-final match against Germany.總之，內(nèi)馬爾和席爾瓦都將“無法參加比賽”（stay off the field/sit out the match）。
如果退出比賽的決定由選手自己做出，則可用to pull out of the game，to withdraw from the game或to call the game off來表示，如，he withdrew from the game due to injury（他因傷決定退賽）。
